FTP To Access Course Log Files

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a method of accessing files from a remote location. The following instructions will help you to access your chat transcripts files from the DigiChat Site. If you should need further assistance, please contact Support Central at 210-485-0555.

To complete this process, you must have already requested an established a chat room for your course. If you do not have a chat room yet, Click Here or click on Add a Chat Room from the DigiChat Links on the right. Once your chat room is established you will receive an email message stating that the room has been established and also provide you with the necessary access codes for you as a Moderator, gain access to your chat room and also to perform the FTP function.

Obtain a copy of the ws_ftp client software from our ACCD FTP site. ftp://ftp.accd.edu/pub/tools/

Double click on WS_FTPLE.EXE and follow download instructions for placing the software on your harddrive. Then, install the software on your harddrive by double clicking the WS_FTP.EXE file on your harddrive.

Once FTP is installed, then follow the procedures below:

Start WS_FTP to access the DigiChat FTP Site. To access your transcript files, you must access the Transcripts folder on the DigiChat FTP site. You will be provided with a userid and password to access the DigiChat FTP Site via email.

At the session properties window, Click the NEW button.

Type a Profile name: DigiChat.

Host Name/Address: host.digichat.com

User ID: Will be provided to you via email.

Uncheck the Anonymous check box.

Press the APPLY button and then press OK.

Type in your password, as provided to you by the Chat Master via email.

The following screen should appear. Double-click on the Transcripts Folder on the remote site.

The following screen should appear, click on your course folder. For example if you are teaching a PAC_ITSW2337095 course, double-click on that folder to see your transcript files. If the folder name is not completely visible, click the divider between the column names and move it to the right.

The following screen should appear, move the html file within that folder to a folder on your harddrive. Click the left arrow button to move file to the local system. The file is in HTML format and you will be able to use the browser (IE or Netscape) to look at the contents. Click the exit button to exit out of ws_ftp. The filename signifies the date on which the transcript was created.
