System Back-Up Guidelines
Have you backed up your PC lately? This is one area where people spend very little time on until the unthinkable happens. In the recent years, we have started to rely more and more on PC files, it is important to regularly backup those important files. Save yourself a few headaches, think about a backup strategy right now. Backups can vary from simple to complex procedures. There are several types of media available to complete your backup, such as: Superdisks, Tape Drives, Re-writable CD's, Iomega Zip Drives etc. You should begin by determining your budget and needs and then choose an appropriate software package to establish a backup/recovery process. Tips to remember before you backup your files:
- Develop a backup routine (monthly, weekly, daily); Backup only your important files. Backing up your software applications may not be good idea. It may be easier to reinstall software applications then trying to recover from a backup media.
- Delete contents of your temp directory before performing the backup procedure.
- Run Scandisk before your perform your backup procedure to audit your hard disk file system.
- Defragment your files at least once in two months to improve file access performance.
- Scan your Hard drive for viruses before attempting to backup your files.
- Make and maintain a boot disk, to start your computer independently, if your Hard disk fails. Remember to test your startup (boot) disks. Make the disk write-protected. You have to re-generate your startup disk anytime you make a system change. Keep it updated and store it in a safe place.
- Maintain a simple log of all the error messages. This will be useful for file recovery.
Always test your backup copy. Try backing up a few files and then try to restore them.
Store your backup media in a safe place. At least have two sets of backup media. Rotate use of them, you can minimize wear on the media.

Tips to remember before you request data recovery services:
- Stop using the PC as soon as you accidentally delete a file.
- If you are using Windows 95 or above, look in your recycle bin to see if your deleted file is stored at that location.
- Do not turn off the PC.
- Contact the Support Central Office and submit a work order.
