Course Description: This course provides an overview of microcomputer applications including a brief introduction to computer concepts, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Office Word 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office Access 2007, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, creating Web pages, and integration of the applications. Learn basic through intermediate computer concepts with an emphasis on the personal computer and its practical use, including hardware, application and system software, the Internet and World Wide Web, communications, database management, e-commerce, and computers in society. Focus on this course is on the basic knowledge required to be computer literate in today’s digital world. Text : Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory Concepts and Techniques, Windows XP Edition (1-4188-4327-x) Teaching Methods: 1. Lectures: Since this is an online class, there are no lectures given. 2. Assignments: Homework is assigned for the chapters in your book of 10 questions each. You will be given two attempts for each of the 12 quizzes. I will record your highest grade. 3. Labs: There are 14 lab assignments for this course taken from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Please follow the instructions and use your textbook to guide you. Submit all labs through WebCT by selecting the assignments and activities and selecting assignments. Select the lab you will work on, follow the instructions and complete the lab on your computer then upload it via WebCT and I will grade it. 4. Exams: Two exams will be given. There is a midterm exam and a final. You will get only one attempt to take each of the tests. Please call or email me if you accidentally get locked out and I will reset the test once. 5. Participation: This is an accelerated class and you only have 4 weeks to complete your work. August the 15th is your final day. Complete your assignments as quickly as possible and you might be able to finish it early. Note: While this class uses Office 2007, I will accept labs from an older version of Office. You may have problems following the steps in the book because they are based on Office 2007. In cases where a template is to be downloaded and used, you might not be able to use it in an older version of office. You might need to complete your labs in either the school lab in the library or at a friend’s or relative’s computer. Grading: Total points will be computed as follows. The total points for quizzes, cases, and assignments may vary. Midterm: 25 Final: 25 Homework: 25 Labs: 25 Total: 100

Course Policies: Academic Dishonesty: Plagiarism and cheating are serious offenses and may be punished by failure on exam, paper or project; failure in course; and or expulsion from the University. For more information refer to the "Academic Dishonesty" policy in the University Undergraduate Catalog. For this class, it is permissible to assist classmates in general discussions of computing techniques. General advice and interaction are encouraged. Each person, however, must develop his or her own solutions to the assigned projects, assignments, and tasks. In other words, students may not "work together" on graded assignments.

Incomplete Policy: Students will not be given an incomplete grade in the course without sound reason and documented evidence as described in the Student Handbook. In any case, for a student to receive an incomplete, he or she must be passing and must have completed a significant portion of the course. |
