Retention Strategies

Before your drop a course consider the following

If Problems Occur
Don't Drop the Course

  • Everyone who takes an on-line course WII have challenges and problems

    • Don't run to drop the course just because you have a problem.

    • Don't just quit because of a problem.  Get help to solve it.

    • Anyone can register, but only serious students work through problems and succeed.

    • If you can just get past your current difficulties and frustrations you will succeed!

  • If you have a problem, have you asked someone else for HELP?
    • Most students have to ask someone else for help, more than once, during the semester.

    • Ask your instructor for help

      • Tell them the problems you are having.

      • It is you instructor's job to help you.

    • Other students in the class

      • Others may have had the same problem you are having and have a solution.

      • Students usually enjoy helping their colleagues

      • Post a message to the bulletin board or email another student for help.

    • Talk to an on-line counselor or come on campus to see one.

    • Use a computer lab on campus and get one-on-one help
    • On campus facilities and resources are there for you
      • Even if you are taking an on-line class

      • Even if you are an older student.

  • If you are having computer problems

  • Remember you are deserving of this opportunity for an education.

    • If you drop, you will not have credit for this course.
