COURSE DESCRIPTION: Practical general training and experiences in the workplace.  The College, with the employer, develops and documents an individualized plan for the student.  The Plan relates the workplace training and experience to the student’s general and technical course of study.  The guided external experiences may be for pay or no pay.  This course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. 

 

COURSE OBJECTIVE:  To provide the student with actual on-the-job experience while working in a degree-related position.

INSTRUCTIONAL TIME:    Work Experience: Approximately 256 hours per semester (or approximately 16 hours/week for a 16 week semester).

 

Attendance is mandatory.  Work experience at internship/practicum site will be a minimum of 200 hours per semester.

 

PREREQUISITE:  Approval of advisor.

 

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Each student is expected to be at the respective work site at the time agreed upon by the student and the employer.  It is the responsibility of the student to possess an outstanding work ethic by being at the work site on time and performing duties with a positive and professional attitude.

 

After the census date, a student who has accumulated the equivalent of more than two weeks' absences may be dropped from the course.  After the end of the "Q" grading period, the instructor may issue a "W" grade.  A student who is unable to continue in the class is responsible for seeing that he or she is dropped.  Failure to do so will result in an "F" grade.  (Refer to Pages 88-91 on the St. Philip's College 2006-2008 Catalog)

 

Attendance will be recorded beginning with the date the student is officially employed.

 

NOTE: Students not working by Monday, September 15, 2008, will be dropped from the course.

 

TARDY POLICY: Each student is required to call the employer and the internship/practicum supervisor if the student anticipates being late on any given day.  Excessive tardiness could result in termination of employment.
