Department of English and Speech

English and Speech

During the Summer 2008 Semester, the Department of English and Speech, including all Faculty and Staff, has been moved to the Green Room of the LRC, on the third floor of the Sutton Learning Center. Faculty and Staff can be reached at (210) 531-3373. We anticipate returning to the Norris Technical Building by the end of the summer. We are sorry for any confusion this relocation may cause.

English

Significant to the college English curriculum is a developmental writing program designed to prepare the student for college English and the state-mandated THEA test.  The Department also offers courses in literature and composition in order to help students develop a broader understanding of themselves, their environment, and their cultural heritage.

Speech

Recognizing that speech is closely related to, draws upon, and contributes to other academic disciplines, the Department's speech program plays an important role in the mission of the college.   The objective of the speech curricula is to provide students with the knowledge and skills which will enable them to function as effective communicators.
