St. Philip’s College scored an academic personal best in an important workforce education program. Eight of its students were recognized as first-place recipients when the college hosted the 36th SkillsUSA Texas-College/Postsecondary Division Leadership and Skills Championships and Conference on the SPC-Southwest Campus.

St. Philip's College Recognized During Naming of New Science and Engineering Academy
St. Philip’s College was honored for its strong commitment to educating underserved students in the fields of math, science and engineering during a news conference and naming ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by the School of Excellence in Education. It asked St. Philip’s College to be its partner for its new science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) academy which will offer a rigorous curriculum for high school students and allow them to earn college credit from St. Philip’s while still in high school. “St. Philip’s College is proud to be a partner in this incredible program,” said Dr. Adena Williams Loston, president of St. Philip’s College.

SPC’S New English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses In High Demand
St. Philip’s College follows up the successful introduction of the college’s first English as a Second Language course with a second round of ESL classes that will run on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon in the Room 222 of the Applied Science Building on the SPC-Martin Luther King campus starting June 9, 2008. Dr. Adena Williams Loston Addresses Episcopal Diocese of West Texas
On behalf of St. Philip’s College and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Dr. Adena Williams Loston delivered a speech at the 104th Council Meeting of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas at Municipal Auditorium. Her presentation included a historical overview explaining how the College was founded by the Church on March 1, 1898 and that St. Philip’s College celebrated its 110th anniversary on March 1, 2008.

St. Philip's College Receives Six-Figure Grant From Port San Antonio
San Antonio's aerospace industry got a great liftoff. This week, St. Philip's College received a grant worth $139,000 from Port San Antonio, the aerospace and industrial complex located at the former Kelly Air Force Base.
The grant awarded to St. Philip's will be used to train employees for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of airplanes. This grant targets employees who primarily work for Chromalloy, Lockheed Martin and Standard Aero.
For nearly twenty years, the aircraft technology program at St. Philip's College's Southwest Campus has been a pipeline for skilled labor in San Antonio's aerospace industry. Many of St. Philip's graduates are now employed by various companies in the aerospace community.
